CLIFTON LIT FEST EVENT:
Film Screening: Robin Prytherch - The Buzzard Man
Sunday, 15 November 2026 – 10:30am
Clifton Community Library
A special screening of Pete Brownlee’s film celebrating the life of the Clifton naturalist who became a respected member of the BBC’s Natural History Unit and a world-renowned expert on buzzards.
Through interviews with those who knew him, alongside archive film, photographs and Robin’s own drawings, the film traces how a boyhood passion for birdwatching became his profession and, after retirement, a lifelong fascination with buzzards.
A trained draughtsman and accomplished artist, Robin left a remarkable legacy of detailed drawings of individual birds, many reproduced in A Life With Buzzards by Lyndon Roberts, published by Bristol Books.
Pete Brownlee, who knew Robin at the BBC, was inspired to make the film after reading Lyndon’s book. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with friends and experts who knew Robin.
British Birds recommend ‘A Life with Buzzards’
Bristol Books are pleased to see that Alan Harris of British Birds has recommended Robin Prytherch: A Life with Buzzards as a book that “fires my enthusiasm and determines me to strive to know birds better just like him”. The book, compiled by Lyndon Roberts, captures Robin’s passion for Buzzards and has received praise from the likes of Iolo Williams and David Lindo (The Urban Birder).
