The Bristol Books team is author and social historian Clive Burlton; publisher Richard Jones; book designer Joe Burt and Martin Powell, publicist and marketing professional.

Clive Burlton

Clive is an author, social historian and non-executive director of Empica PR. He’s written four books, co-authored two others and has curated several First World War-related exhibitions. He volunteers at Bristol Archives and has worked with the BBC on radio and television programmes. Clive is also a regular speaker at local history and community groups across Bristol.

Richard jones

Richard Jones is a former journalist who worked on the Western Daily Press and Bristol Evening Post before joining Future Publishing in Bath where he became managing editor of the football magazine portfolio. He left Future in 2001 to set up his own contract magazine business and then founded Tangent Books in 2004.

Joe Burt

Joe Burt is responsible for the design of all Bristol Books titles and for ensuring each book looks and reads as beautifully as the stories within. Joe brings over 10 years industry experience in book design alongside his expertise in branding, advertising, digital design and newsstand publishing. Joe runs his own Bristol design studio Wild Spark Design.

Martin Powell

Bristol-born public relations professional and journalist Martin Powell has always had a passion for the city and its history. He runs Empica PR in Wraxall which he formed after a career in newspapers, which included a number of years as Chief reporter of the Bristol Post.
